Michel COLOMBAN is one of the most famous and best liked amateur aircraft designers. It all started with the diminutive Cricri carefully designed by Michel COLOMBAN to offer performance not previously dreamed of. With an empty weight under 80 kgs, climb rate of 1300 fpm and cruise speed of almost 120 mph the Cricri represents sport flying at its best. For more information Cricris visit the Cricri homepage

Not satisfied with his single seat marvel Michel COLOMBAN set about designing a super light two seat aircraft powered by an 80hp engine but with a top speed of 300 km/hr (186 mph). Using all the experience gained designing the Cricri he was able to design and build the first MC100. Built from aluminium with a carbon fibre main undercarriage the aircraft had an empty weight of just over 200 kgs. Top speed was 300 km/hr and climb rate over 1500 fpm.
Michel COLOMBAN entered into collaboration with Christophe ROBIN the son of France's most famous GA aircraft manufacturer Pierre ROBIN. The two designers worked together to produce a range of high performance recreational kit aircraft. Christophe ROBIN used his experience with carbon fibre to complement Michel's knowledge of light aircraft construction. A new design was realised increasing cabin size engine power and making the aircraft easy to build for the average albeit enthusiastic amateur. Despite the increased size and weight an increase in power and tuned exhaust keeps performance near to Michel's original 300 km/hr target.
The MCR01 VLA was the first aircraft to be realised as a result of the collaboration. Two further two seat design followed firstly the CLUB and then the microlight version. Further development resulted in the first 4 seat variant designated MCR4S. Powered by the Rotax 912 or Turbo charged 914 the 4S breaks all previous design concepts. This is the first 4 seat aircraft powered by such a small modern engine. However that doesn't mean performance is sacrificed. The 4S has better performance than many traditional 4 seat aircraft with far larger engines.
